Southern Premier League Review

A look back at yesterday in the Southern Prem written by Steve Whitney.

Kettering Town lead the Evo-Stik League South Premier table by two points after beating Chesham United 3-1 at Latimer Park with ten-men for almost 70 minutes.
In front of a crowd of 598, the Poppies were leading through Aaron O`Connor`s 14th minute effort when, 7 minutes later, goalkeeper Paul White saw red for an incident involving Victor Osubu.
With no sub keeper on the bench, Brett Solkhon took the gloves and Chesham equalised on 54 minutes when the stand-in keeper was caught out by Matt Bevans’ free-kick from the halfway line.
However, the ten-men took the lead through Matty Stevens in the 79th minute before man of O’Connor scored his second and the Poppies third in the 2nd minute of time added on at the end of the game.
Redditch United are second after edging out Biggleswade Town 1-0 at home.
Dior Angus scored the only goal of the game for Darren Byfield`s side just past the half-hour mark.
King`s Lynn Town swapped places with Tiverton Town and into third spot after beating the Devonians 2-0 at The Walks.
A crowd of 686 saw Craig Parker give Lynn a 16th minute lead that Ryan Hawkins doubled 7 minutes before half-time.
Slough Town dropped to fifth after they became St Neots Town`s second victims of the season.
Chris Flood put the Rebels in front as early as the 5th minute, only for the returning Tom Meechan to level within a minute.
Meechan, back on loan from Hungerford Town, then gave the Saints a 78th minute lead that Dion Sembie-Ferris eventually added to 4 minutes into stoppage time.
Gosport Borough made it eight defeats from eight games as the now managerless side lost 2-0 at Stratford Town.
The kick-off was delayed as Gosport were caught up in an incident that closed the M3 motorway in the morning.
And before they were able to dust off the cobwebs, Liam Francis had the home side in front inside 5 minutes.
Will Grocott doubled that lead 6 minutes later, and that`s how the scoreline remained.

A crowd of 1,518 boosted by a healthy away following, saw Hereford FC win 2-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium against Weymouth.
John Mills opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and James Bowen added a second just after the hour-mark.

Ashley Evans proved to be Merthyr Town`s hero as he bagged both of the Martyrs goals in the 2-1 win over new boys Royston Town at Penydarren Park.
Scott Bridges gave the Crows a 31st minute lead that Evans cancelled out with his first 7 minutes later.
And Evans won it for the home side with less than 6 minutes to go.
Dunstable Town sunk to a seventh defeat in eight, losing to Dorchester Town, for whom this was only a second win and a first for new manager Steve Thompson, at Creasey Park.
A goal straight after half-time from Sam Lanahan eventually earned the Magpies their win.
Hitchin Town`s surprisingly poor start to the season also saw them earn a second win, beating Basingstoke Town 2-1 at Top Field.
The recently returned Jonny McNamara gave the Canaries a 25th minute lead that Callum Donnelly doubled on 65 minutes.
Dan Collier gave Terry Brown`s young side hope with an 83rd minute response, but the hosts held on.
Kings Langley led at home to Banbury United, thanks to Mitch Weiss`s 12th minute effort.
Conor McDonagh levelled 10 minutes after the break and 3 minutes later, United were in front through Luke Carnell.
Jorell Johnson equalised 2 minutes later, only for Jefferson Louis to restore the Puritans lead just 2 minutes later.
The goals kept coming – with Jack Self adding Banbury`s fourth in the 65th minute and a fourth goal in 11 minutes from a Dean Hitchcock penalty gave Kings hope, but they weren`t able to find another leveller.
And Bishop`s Stortford continue to struggle after relegation and were beaten 2-1 at Frome Town.
Sam Teale gave the Somerset hosts a 16th minute lead that Darren Foxley cancelled out 2 minutes later.
But George Miller won it for the home side 20 minutes from time.
