There's No Such Thing As A Perfect Pre-Season Friendly Said Beadle

Talking to the assorted media after tonight's 5-1 win at Bishop's Cleeve, Hereford manager Peter Beadle said that there was no such thing as a perfect pre-season friendly.

"There'll always be something you need to work on. We saw a few things in the first half.

"It was really tough because the wind was really strong.

"There are one or two things we need to be better. When we have as much possession as we had, certainly in games like tonight, we seem to get caught out sometimes by a long clearance that almost creates a chance.

"We said to the players at halftime be aware on the halfway line it only takes one clearance, one ball over the top to get caught out.

"Obviously second half it was tougher for them going into the wind.

"But I thought we did it much better second half. We really showed our authority.

"The wind first half was a fair leveler even though we got two goals to get ourselves in front.

"We coped with it really well and still played some decent stuff and again on another day we could have been out of sight by half time.

"The performance was really good on Saturday other than the finishing touch. Tonight we had the finishing touch and we've won the game fairly comfortably.

"Even at 3 and 4 we still kept looking to push.

"So it's all coming together. But we're not quite there yet."

As regards the five goals scored this evening?

"I thought Millsy's first two were excellent finishes which is what you would expect from him.

"Jimmy's was a good finish from good play.

"All the goals in their own way were good tonight

"I thought our play in general was really good. We never really looked under pressure. A couple of times we gave the ball away in bad areas but the way we play that's going to happen. We're not going to be perfect all the time. But for the majority of it I'm really pleased."

Cleeve scored their goal from a deflection.

"Quite a big one as Horsell was running one way and couldn't get back.

"I'd like to see how many shots they had on target, a few balls into the box.

"But again (their goal was) our own doing.

"John Mills gave the ball away under no pressure on the halfway line. These are the things we are trying to eradicate, trying to get out of players game. We can't give the ball away cheaply.

"We're four games in now and I'm really pleased with fitness levels and the play is slowly coming. I'm really pleased where we are right now."
