Wimborne Town 2 – Hereford 3

Calvin Dinsley Scored Hereford's Winning Goal
Hereford travelled to Dorset-based Wimborne Town this afternoon, which is one of the Bulls’ longest trips this season. Manager Pete Beadle made two changes to the side that narrowly beat Paulton Rovers 2-1 at home midweek – Jimmy Oates made a return to the starting XI, whilst Jamie Molyneux and Calvin Dinsley both made their full debuts.

As is becoming a pattern of late, Hereford were 1-0 down away from home within the opening moments of the game. With 5 minutes on the clock, Toby Holmes cut open Hereford's defence after chasing down a long ball, and his shot across Martin Horsell from 18-yards nestled in the bottom left hand corner of the net.

In the 13th minute, Hereford had their first meaningful shot when Pablo Haysham's well-worked effort was parried by home goalkeeper Patrick O’Flaherty, but the Bulls failed to test Wimborne’s defence from the following corner.

4 minutes later, Hereford were back on level terms. Mike Symons headed Joel Edwards’ long ball into the path of the onrushing John Mills, but he was fouled within the area by captain Scott Arnold, who was making his 400th appearance for Wimborne. Referee Joshua Ainscow pointed immediately to the spot, and Mills stepped up and coolly dispatched the penalty past the diving keeper for his 21st goal of the season.

With 22 minutes on the clock, Hereford found themselves behind for the second time. A mix-up at the back between Chris Parry and Martin Horsell left Toby Holmes through on goal. Despite the best efforts of the backtracking Ryan Green, who managed to block two shots allowing Horsell time to recover, Holmes was finally able to find the back of the net, slotting the ball home for his second of the afternoon.

On the stroke of half time, Hereford once again pulled themselves back level courtesy of Jamie Molyneux’s first goal for the Bulls. John Mills set Molyneux up nicely 8-yards out, with the 22-year old finding the back of the net with his right-foot.

With a considerable slope on Wimborne’s pitch, Hereford were shooting ‘downhill’ in the second period. The Bulls started the half brightly, with Mike Symons going close after heading Jimmy Oates’ cross over the bar.

Another Oates cross was met by the head of Pablo Haysham moments later, but couldn’t quite connect cleanly with the ball as the danger was cleared by the Magpies.

With 12 minutes gone of the second half, Calvin Dinsley put Hereford ahead, being the second player of the afternoon to score on his full debut. An initial shot from Mike Symons from the left-hand side of the box was blocked by O’Flaherty, but John Mills did well to work the rebound to Disnley who curled the ball past the keeper into the top right-hand corner.

Once they were ahead, Hereford remained firmly in the driving seat of the game and should’ve been two goals ahead if Mike Symons’ hadn’t been adjudged to have fouled Wimborne’s Walker. Some good build-up play between John Mills and substitute Tristan Plummer led to Mills crossing the ball into Symons at the far-post. But Ben Walker went down as Symons towered to head the ball home, with the referee awarding a free kick to the hosts.

3 minutes later Tristan Plummer almost made it 4. After some good work by Chris Parry to regain possession, Rob Purdie played a neat ball through to Plummer on the right, but his low drive took a deflection off the foot of the keeper before the referee unbelievably gave a goal kick instead of a corner.

A final chance for Hereford fell to Pablo Haysham in the 90th minute, but his rising shot from the left of the box was too high to trouble the keeper as Hereford remain unbeaten at top of the league.
