New Southern League Chairman

One of the outcomes of today's Southern League AGM was that Terry Barrett successfully took over from Ken Turner as chairman of the league.

Turner was the chairman of the league at the time when Hereford United were accepted into the Southern League Premier Division following their expulsion from the Conference.

Barrett on the other hand comes from Hitchin Town, and has given 25 years of his life to the club. He served on Isthmian League Board before the club were transferred to the Southern League in 2004, where he was also on the board.

The league also has a new Vice Chairman, Brian McCarthy from Chesham United.

McCarthy has been on the league board since 2004, and has recently been the Chairman of Ground Grading and League Development Director.

He first joined Chesham in 2000 as Commercial Director, but moved to Aylesbury United in 2002 when a similar role became available.

He then joined back up with the club in 2004, and enjoyed a short stint as chairman, but circumstances out of his control meant he had to leave the club once more.

These days, his responsibilities include the role match secretary, as well as being a director.

Meanwhile, Mangotsfield United's Twitter is also reporting that all Southern League clubs will have electronic scoreboards next season.

And finally, club secretary Martin Watson has confirmed that the fixtures are set to be released on July 15th at 9am.
