Lambs Eyeing Cup Rather Than League

Friday's opponents Tamworth are eyeing up a Birmingham Senior Cup final with West Brom.

The Lambs face Hednesford at home tonight in a bid to face the Baggies in the final, and are expected to field a first team side as they look to end their dismal season on a high. Ex-Bull Gavin Mahon told the local press:

“The lads we have at the club are still upbeat in training and the atmosphere hasn’t been too sombre. The gaffer and his staff have been instrumental in that. Believe me, I’ve been at clubs in difficult positions and management teams struggle to hold it together.

“Tuesday against Hednesford offers us a reprieve and something to look forward to. It’s important from the club’s perspective - extra revenue which would be welcomed to help the budget for next year.

“The lads here are all playing for their futures. We all want to play in good stadiums and these types of experiences will bode well for most of the lads in the future."

Two players won't be in their squads this week, with loan striker Matt Godden and winger Andy Haworth both departing The Lamb in the past week as they prepare for part-time status in Conference North.

Godden netted five times in nine games as the Lambs produced a worse run of results than the Bulls. The Lambs have won just one of their last 18 games, failing to score in their last five.

Ex-Bulls Mahon, Richard Peniket, and Nick Chadwick are all likely to feature on Friday, but Michael Townsend is currently out injured with a back problem.
