News Round-Up

In the opening game of the Carling Cup, Crawley beat AFC Wimbledon 3-2 at the Broadfield Stadium. The two sides were playing a preliminary round as the two lowest-ranked teams, with the Wombles twice leading until Matt Tubbs' winner. The Red Devils also had Hope Akdan sent off late on, while ex-Bull Ben Smith made a brief sub appearance.

Aldershot have signed teenage midfielder Jake Taylor on a months loan. The Reading man has made a couple of first team appearances for the Royals. Bradford have signed Falkirk winger Jack Compton on loan until January. The 22 year old former West Brom trainee played 37 times for Falkirk last season, but is yet to make his Football League debut after dropping into non-league before his Scottish move.

Burton will sign Derby keeper Ross Atkins on loan for the season after impressing during his trial with the club. The teenager spent most of last season at Tamworth on loan. Oxford have signed former Northampton defender Liam Davis on a one year deal. The 24 year old spent three years with the Cobblers after starting out with Coventry.

Wimbledon are reported to be in talks with veteran forward Jason Euell about signing for the club. The 34 year old was released by Blackpool earlier in the summer, and made over 100 appearances for the original Wimbledon side in the 1990's. Despite their lack of forward options, Southend have allowed outcast striker Matt Patterson to join Gillingham on trial. He previously was on trial at Oxford but they declined the opportunity to sign him.

Burton have signed former Bulls loanee Danny Blanchett on a one year deal. The 24 year old played 39 times for Crewe last season but was released earlier in the summer. Bulls News passed the nine million hits mark overnight. The site has been averaging 2,300 unique users a day, accessing the site nearly three times each, during the usually quiet pre-season period.
