News Round Up

Saturday's opponents Walsall lost 3-1 at Mansfield on Tuesday night, while opening day foes Morecambe drew 3-3 with Tranmere. Aldershot have signed ex-Reading right sided player John Hills on a two year deal, and former Brighton defender Adam Hinshelwood on a one year deal. Northampton have signed full back John Curtis on a one year deal. The 30 year old was one of the starlets at Man Utd, but recently plied his trade at Wrexham.

Notts County have been blocked in their bid to throw the local rugby club out of Meadow Lane by the High Court. The court says the rugby club can play an August 15th friendly there while the case is argued, with the football club away on that date. The Magpies have paid £100,000 for teenage Portsmouth winger Matt Richie and want veteran Dietmar Hamann after his release from Man City.

Ex-Bull Chris Lane scored as new side Vauxhall Motors went down 5-3 to Wrexham. Northwich have been rebuffed in their 25p/£ offer of a CVA, with the taxman wanting more and blocking the deal. Chester have cancelled Saturday's friendly with Droylsden, leaving them having played only one friendly before the season starts.

Chesterfield are to sign striker Drew Talbot from Luton on a two year deal. He cost the Hatters £250,000 but scored only three times in 49 games before spending the second half of last season on loan at Saltergate, scoring twice. Bournemouth are to register assistant boss Jason Tindall as a player to bolster their squad with their transfer embargo unlikely to be lifted before the start of the season. He last started a League match in 2006.

Southend have confirmed that winger Damian Scannell has contracted swine flu. Brentford have also acknowledged that full back Ryan Dickson also caught the virus but has made a full recovery. Port Vale assistant boss Geoff Horsfield also says he had the virus just before joining the club.
