Young Bulls draw at Hay

Hereford United's under 18's drew their pre-season friendly against Hay St Mary's 3-3 last night. The young Bulls were 3-1 down at one stage but rallied well.

Below is an edited report from Martin Tong, website editor of Hay St Mary's.

The Saints dominated the first 20 minutes and went close on several occasons, the best chance falling to Rob Snedden who pulled his shot wide after being put in by Ben Bevan. It was Bevan who went close next getting on the end of a Kevin Jones flick on, his shot hit the post and went out for a goal kick. The young keeper (Matt Gwynne) made a couple good saves to keep the Saints attack at bay but could do nothing to prevent the lively Bevan from opening the scoring after being put in on goal by Snedden. Hereford came into the game in the last 10 minutes of the first period and looked dangerous on the counter attack with Nick Evans going close at the near post. The session ended with the Saints 1-0 up.

It was Hereford who dominated the first 10 minutes of the second session and got a deserved equaliser when Tyler Weir placed his shot past keeper Ian Jones. The Saints then took control again and it was one of their own youth players (Jake Atkinson) who beat his marker on the right and sent in an inch perfect ball for Bevan to run onto and make it 2-1. Kevin Jones made it 3-1 when his shot on the turn went through the Hereford centre back and the keepers legs after a mix up. Ian Jones in the Saints goal had to make a double save from Weir and Evans to keep the Saints 2 goal lead. End of session two 3-1 to the Saints.

Hereford Youth made several changes for the final session and it was good to see a Saint among them (Brendan Hackett) who nearly scored with his first touch with a bullet of a header which just went over the bar with keeper Jones stranded. Hereford Youth were by far the better side in the this session and their superior fitness showed. Midfielder Jimmy Morton pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 and Aiden Thomas got the equaliser with 2 minutes to go after scoring a controversial goal when getting on the end of a Weir cross.

Final score 3-3.
