Slow progress on ground redevelopment

Although Hereford United's promotion has spured some activity from those involved in the probable redevelopment of Edgar Street, little has yet emerged about any plans or timetable.

It appears that the Richardsons and their partners Carillion are sitting back waiting to see what whether any possible tenants might emerge and what support there might be from grants towards any project.

Hereford United's manager Graham Turner had a meeting with the Richardsons last week but as he says in his Hereford Times column there was not too much of an outcome. He also had a meeting with three presentatives from Herefordshire Council.

"We spent half-an-hour discussing the situation in the boardroom before having a walk around, with particular attention to the Blackfriars and Meadow Ends.

"I think they now realise how urgent our needs are, how without their co-operation nothing will get done and how exciting the prospects could be of the development incorporating commercial projects which could bring revenue into the club for many years to come.

"The next step will be for the council's representaives to hold talks with the Richardsons, ascertain where the common ground is and then make progress from there."

Elsewhere in the Hereford Times there is an article which suggests that a new river crossing close to the city is back on the agenda.

Council leader Roger Phillips said he was ready for fight to get a second river crossing.
