Saturday's News from Canvey Island

Stansfield Suffers Fractured Cheekbone

Adam Stansfield faces another long spell on the sidelines after suffering a depressed cheekbone fracture in today's Conference match.

Similar injuries have generally taken up to three months to clear, making it unlikely that Stansfield will play again this season. Canvey striker Lee Boylan has missed two months so far with a similar injury. If Stansfield misses a similar length of time to Boylan, he will return for the last two Conference matches and the play-offs.

With Andy Williams being deployed on the wing again, and Danny Carey-Bertram and Guy Ipoua still struggling for fitness, the signing of Stuart Fleetwood looks an increasingly shrewd decision.

Jeannin Faces Long Suspension

Alex Jeannin faces anything up to a five match ban for his dismissal in today's match.

Jeannin was apparently sent off for arguing with the referee, initially receiving a yellow card. Reports are mixed as to whether he was given a straight red card, or a second yellow.

The first yellow was his tenth of the season, incurring a two game ban. This ban would, normally, have allowed him to play on Tuesday against Aldershot. However the red card ban is effective immediately and will be for a minimum of two additional games.

Jeannin will miss the visits of Aldershot and Stevenage, and the trips to Morecambe and Gravesend. Should the FA decide appropriately, he will also miss the home game against Accrington.

Ten Man Bulls Held By Canvey

The Bulls had Alex Jeannin sent off as they were held at Park Lane.Jeannin was booked for arguing early in the second half and was, according to radio reports, shown a straight red card for continuing his protests. The BBC text commentary suggests it was actually a second yellow. Stuart Fleetwood scored his first Conference goal before a disputed penalty given against Tamika Mkandawire leveled the scores. The Bulls are now third on goal difference from Morecambe, but remain three points inside the play-off zone.
